Oops, I created a QAL

So a few days ago I saw someone mentioning that it was exactly 100 days until Christmas, so a small idea formed in my head. I have borrowed this book from a friend called 100 Modern Quilt Blocks by Tula Pink. Also called #Tulapinkscitysampler. Wouldn’t it be a great idea to make one block each…

So a few days ago I saw someone mentioning that it was exactly 100 days until Christmas, so a small idea formed in my head. I have borrowed this book from a friend called 100 Modern Quilt Blocks by Tula Pink.

Also called #Tulapinkscitysampler. Wouldn’t it be a great idea to make one block each day and have all the blocks finished by Christmas? Many other quilters thought the same!

To keep myself accountable and maybe also because I have been pretty quiet on social media lately, I posted this on my feed. Just to see what people would think about it, I asked if maybe some of my friends and other quilters would like to join. I was so surprised and excited by the reactions I got — I think almost 10 of my quilty friends have decided to join, or pick up their project again. Isn’t that amazing?!

I believe several of the other board members of the Dutch MQG have decided to join, and I’ve gotten a few DMs from other Dutch quilters who want to participate. And Liza even decided to get the book to start and sew along! I’m so happy and inspired by the other quilters to really get sewing. Below you can see the blocks I have made so far.

Now I really have to keep up and plan and finish this crazy idea I got. To keep myself organised and keep the ‘rules’ simple, I’ve made a very simple tracker to colour and mark off the days and blocks. Because being realistic… there is no way I will be able to sew for 100 days straight. Things will happen in between, I have some trips planned. So this is my game plan:

  • try to cut blocks in advance, because then it will be easier to do the sewing
  • sew ahead if I know I am going to be gone for a few days
  • expect to do some catching up every now and then, but that is ok

The countdown I’m using will mean I will finish the last block on the day before Christmas. Let’s see how this accidental quilt- or sew-along will go. Let me know in the comments what you think and if you are joining, or tag me on Instagram.
